The conflict regarding reducing the number of seats in Assam Engineering College (AEC) has been resolved and a formal announcement in this regard is expected within this week, said the Director of Technical Education, Assam, Dr Atul Bora.
Dr Bora stated that there was a misunderstanding after the arrest of an anti-social element in the Assam Engineering College campus. The arrested person was thought to be a student of the college. The All India Council of Technical Education was intending to reduce the number of seats following this incident. However, the issue has been sorted out now and a formal announcement is likely to be made shortly.
In addition, Dr Bora revealed that there are a total of 975 seats in the engineering colleges of the State in the government sector out of which Assam Engineering College has a share with 420 seats in the first year.
Assam Engineering College, the first engineering college in the north-east India, was established in the year 1955. Presently, it awards Bachelor in Engineering degrees in eight different engineering disciplines, Master in Engineering degrees in Civil, Mechanical and Electrical Engineering, and Master in Computer Application degree. The college offers PhD programs under all departments. All the courses of AEC are affiliated to Gauhati University.
