Selection Process and Counselling Process after CLAT

The Common Law Admission Test (CLAT) is conducted for admission to various law programmes offered by colleges across India.

Selection Process:

  • Allotment of seats through the centralized admission scheme of CLAT is done on merit-cum-preference basis.
  • All admission are done on the basis of score achieved by the students in the CLAT entrance exam.
  • The first list released by the organizing body comprises the names of the selected candidates from various categories on the basis of ‘merit-cum-preference’.

Counselling Process:

  • Registration: After the announcement of the first list, candidates will have to apply for counselling process. Students whose names are mentioned in the list will have to pay the counselling fee of Rs.50,000 to be eligible for seat allotment process.
  • Lock: Candidates will have to submit their course and college preference. After locking the choices, candidates will not be allowed to shift from one university to another during the further counseling process. The Lock option confirms the candidate’s final choice for the particular NLU. Therefore lock your choices only when you are sure.
  • Shifting: The candidates choosing this option will be considered for further counseling rounds against any vacancies that will arise in NLUs. Only upward shifting will be permitted in accordance with the preference list given at the time of application.
  • Based on the vacancies in institutes, a second, third and final list of shortlisted candidates may be published.
  • In order to confirm the seats allotted to them, students will have to get their documents verified by the designated authority and pay the admission fees.
