Seven colleges in Kerala are selected as ‘Colleges with Potential Excellence’ (CPE) status by University Grants Commission (UGC). The UGC has granted this status to the colleges based on academic standards, research and extension activities. The following colleges secured CPE status:-
- St. Joseph's College for Women, Alappuzha
- Providence Women’s College, Kozhikode
- College of Social Science, Kochi
- St. Thomas College, Thrissur
- St. Joseph's College, Irinjalakkuda
- Little Flower College, Guruvayoor
- Vimala College, Thrissur
The colleges will be given funds under this scheme. The funds will be provided to develop infrastructure which would help in attaining higher academic standards. The funds to each college vary between Rs. 1 crore to Rs. 1.50 crore . The colleges will be provided with 50% of funds initially and the rest of the funds will be provided based on a satisfactory appraisal by the Monitoring Committee. Three other colleges from Kerala are also recommended for the next phase of CPE scheme.

The colleges need to spend 50% of funds for the highly rated departments of the college. Rest of the 50% have to be spend on general and other departments. These also include improving common facilities of the college.
