Beginning this academic year, the Shyama Prasad Mukherjee College for Women , also known as SPMC, will start a new Geography (Hons.) course.
The college affiliated to Delhi University had received an approval for the same from the University Grants Commission (UGC) in the year 2015 itself. However, the college was not able to introduce it then because of certain logistical constraints.
The B.A. Geography (Hons.) course at Shyama Prasad Mukherjee College will offer a total of 46 seats, the admission to which will be based on DU cut-off lists released by the university. At present, the college has one permanent and two ad-hoc faculty members to teach the specialized course. More teachers will be hired once the course begins this semester.

The Geography Hons. course at the college is among the most popular courses in Delhi University . The University has received a total 75,434 applications for the course this year. The DU cut off for Geography Hons course usually lies between 84% and 97.5%.
Additionally, many UPSC aspirants opt for the course every year. Candidates studying subjects like economics, anthropology and life sciences usually pick Geography course at the undergraduate level.

Shyama Prasad Mukherjee College for Women is located in the Punjabi Bagh area of Delhi and is close to the Shivaji Park Metro Station on the Green line and Punjabi Bagh metro station on the Pink line of Delhi Metro.
