Single Entrance Test for B.Tech, B.Arch Courses welcomed by Aspirants

The Central Government’s move to conduct single entrance exam for engineering and architecture courses offered by colleges across India has been welcomed by students. Aspirants will be able to apply for all the institutes in India through this single exam in 2018.

HRD Ministry announced on February 10, 2017, that it has directed the AICTE to structure the pattern of a single entrance exam basis which admissions to engineering and architecture colleges will be conducted from 2018.

Geeta Parikh, an aspirant who will appear for the exam in 2018, said that this procedure will save them from appearing for multiple entrances in order to secure a seat.

Vaibhav Narwade, Secretary, Citizen Forum For Sanctity in Educational Institutions (CFSE), said that this single window system will eradicate the admissions process through donations in engineering colleges. He also added that the exam pattern should be designed keeping in mind that there are various boards in India and some of them are more advanced than the state boards such as CBSE and ICSE.

A normalized test will enable students of all boards to give their best in the common entrance exam. This will include maintaining the difficulty level and syllabus according to all boards, added Gopakumaran Thampi, Principal of a city engineering college.

Thampi also said that aspects such as state reservations for domicile holders must also be considered to ensure a fair admission process across all engineering and architecture colleges. This will also enable to reduce the number of vacant seats in engineering colleges, added Thampi.
