Union Minister of Textile, Smriti Irani laid the foundation stone of National Institute of Fashion Technology, Panchkula on December 29, 2016. The construction of the campus will be completed within two years, and the interesting thing is that the students who enroll in this institute will get guidance from international experts. For this purpose, the institute has tied up with 32 global centres.
On this occasion, Smriti Irani congratulated Manohar Lal, Chief Minister of the state for fast-tracking the project. She further added that the government gives more emphasis to higher education as it is the top priority of BJP government. She assured that the Central government would assist the Government of Haryana in developing skill weaving units in Panchkula, Sirsa, Ambala and Panipat.

She further added that the construction of NIFT Panchkula was expected to begin between 2012-13 but did not happen due to various reasons.
The NIFT Panchkula will start functioning from a temporary campus at an IT park located in the region. The academic session will begin from 2017, for which the students can enroll. The institute offers both undergraduate and postgraduate courses in fashion technology, designing as well as fashion management. NIFT Panchkula also offers certificates programmes of six months and one-year duration. While carrying out the admission process, 20 percent seats are reserved for the candidates from Haryana domicile. Ever year, a total number of 230 students will get admission at NIFT Panchkula.

Chief Minister Manohar Lal revealed that he had made 3,200 announcements regarding various developmental activities, schemes, welfare measures and others two years ago and among them, 1,200 programmes or works have been done, and the rest will be completed soon.
