From the academic session of 2018, SPPU (Savitribai Phule Pune University) will launch India’s first integrated Post Graduate course in Water Management and Sanitation. For introducing this course, SPPU has signed a tripartite Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Unity Knowledge and UNESCO IHE Delft Institute of Water Education (Netherlands) on October 30, 2017.
IHE, which specialises in water management, has designed the syllabi of the course, and its faculty will teach modules during the course. Department of Environment Sciences of SPPU will launch run the course, which will begin from the next academic session.
Vice Chancellor of SPPU, Dr. Nitin Karmalkar pointed that poor stormwater management, improper water distribution and erratic monsoons are the major reasons for urban flooding. The objective of the course is to produce better planners and policymakers. Currently, there is a dearth of the workforce in this field, and the course will play a vital role in meeting these needs.
