Savitribai Phule Pune University is all set to offer new specializations in Master of Business Administration. From this session onwards, 12 new MBA specializations are going to be offered. One of the 12 specializations is Family Business Management (FBM). Earlier there were 6 specializations being offered, but now the number has been raised to 18.
Earlier the MBA specializations were designed, which could only be well matched with one business aspect, such as Finance or Human resource. However, a person dealing with family business has to play various roles from finance to marketing, from resource management to production. So, the new specializations have been designed to nurture a candidate with all the techniques needed to run a business house successfully.

The idea to introduce new MBA specializations took place previous year only, in order to enhance employability among students by providing a qualification in the field being demanded by the recruiters. The new specializations would be offered by the colleges affiliated to the University.
These days, new jobs are opening in the field of entrepreneurship development, digital media and so on, which requires techniques and training, exclaimed Ms. Prafulla Pawar, who is the Dean of Faculty of Commerce and Management.

The 12 new MBA specializations include:
Rural and Agri Business Management (RABM)
Supply Chain Management (SCM)
Family Business Management (FBM)
Banking and Insurance Management (BIM)
Entrepreneurship Development (ED)
Defence Management (DM)
Digital Media & Communication Marketing (MC)
Services Management (SM)
Tourism and Hospitality Management (THM)
Retail Management (RM)
Healthcare Management (HM)
Technology Management (TM)
These new specializations are provided along with the existing specializations of International Business, Operations, Human Resource, Finance, Marketing and Information Technology.
Students will not only get theoretical skills but will also get training from different industries which will directly relate to the academic subjects. Let’s say, if a student wants to pursue Family Business Management (FBM), then he/she can get training in their family business. She/he can give ideas to supplement it with their new techniques. Moreover, one can also join other business profile as an intern and can get experience to help their family business.
