The English Department of St. Xavier’s College , Mumbai is organising an event called ‘Ithaka’ that will take place on 8 th December of the year 2016. This event is a theatre festival which takes place every year. This annual event is supervised by the head of the English department, Pearl Pastakia and two students of the department are organising the event. This event nullifies the argument that theatre is a dying art and all the other colleges support this event. Theatre is now a widely accepted and enjoyed art which is blooming once again especially in colleges.

The theatre of the college has been designed completely and solely by students and even the decision of what productions will perform is taken by students. The management aspect of the theatre is also handled by the students of the college.
For this event, the theatre students have asked all the students of other departments to submit original skits or scripts for sketches and plays. The final decision will be taken by the heads of the event and the supervisor.

For 2016, the theme of the event will be to give out an ecological message. It’s main aim or focus will be to use art as medium to present the realities of the environment and the world. The event will include workshops on the following:
- Acting
- Creative Writing and Shakespeare
The event will also include plays like ‘Catcher in the Rye.’
