Amity Institute of Biotechnology and Amity Institute of Molecular Medicines and Stem Cell Research together with University of Dundee, UK organised a day long Indo-UK Joint Symposium on “Stem Cell, Cancer & Drug Discovery” at Amity University Campus, Sector-125, Noida
During the occasion, Dr. Ashok K Chauhan- Founder President, Amity Group inaugurated State of the art Stem Cell Culture Facility Lab at Amity Institute of Molecular Medicines and Stem Cell Research in the presence of Dr. David Gray, Head of Biotechnology, Drug Discovery Unit, University of Dundee, UK and Prof. (Ms.) Frances Fuller Pace , Cancer Biology Unit, University of Dundee, UK.
While inaugurating the Lab, Dr. Ashok K Chauhan said that Stem Cell Culture Facility Lab, at Amity is one of the best in the country wherein revolutionary researches and clinical trials will be carried on and later on, the facility will include Stem Cell Banking as well with an aim to cure deadly diseases afflicting the humanity.
During the Symposium, eminent Academicians, Scientists, Researchers and Scholars from India and abroad including Dr. Pawan Malhotra- Senior Scientist, International Centre for Genetic Engineering and Biotechnology (ICGEB), Delhi; Dr. Venkatesh Ponemone- Executive Director, Totipotent, RX , Dr. David Gray, Head of Biotechnology, Drug Discovery Unit, University of Dundee, UK Prof. (Ms.) Frances Fuller Pace, Cancer Biology Unit, University of Dundee, UK, Dr. B C Das- Chairman, Amity Institute of Molecular Medicines and Stem Cell Research and Dr. Chanderdeep Tandon- Director, Amity Institute of Biotechnology presented their latest research in the area of “Stem Cell, Cancer & Drug Discovery”.
Addressing the gathering, Dr. W Selvamurthy- President Amity Science, Technology and Innovation Foundation and Director General for Amity Directorate of Science and Innovation stressed that people in India suffer from various diseases and disorders and in such a context, Stem Cell Culture Facility Lab inaugurated at Amity and the Symposium assume greater significance. He expressed his hope that during and post Symposium deliberation will be fruitful in bringing together of best brains, leading to mutually benefitting synergy.
Sharing her views, Dr. Balvinder Shukla- Vice Chancellor, Amity University, Uttar Pradesh said that diseases such as Cancer are deadly and researches in Stem Cell can be most important discovery in curing deadly diseases. She stressed that research cannot happen in isolation and the need of the hour is collaborative research, converge of brains and new innovations to benefit mankind.
