Students Upset over Inclusion of Class XI Syllabus in MHT-CET

From the next academic year admissions, students of Maharashtra may find it difficult to crack MHT-CET (Maharashtra Common Entrance Test). Aspirants take the MHT-CET exam seek admission to engineering, pharmacy and other courses that come under the ambit of MHT-CET.

The recent decision of the government to include Class XI syllabus for the MHT-CET exam has come as a set back for students aspiring to appear the entrance exam. According to revised exam pattern, 20% of the questions in MHT-CET 2018 will be based on Class XI syllabus while the rest will be based on Class XII syllabus.

Parents, students and coaching institutes across the states have been worried about the government’s move terming it as a ‘last minute’ announcement. Students start preparing for the exam at least a year ahead and around this time, they are mostly revising the syllabus for the upcoming Maharashtra board exams 2018 as well as the entrance exams. Adding to it, revision of class XI syllabus is likely to be a tedious process for the aspirants.

A teacher who runs a Science Academy in the state, while commenting on the same, indicated that the government should have taken the decision before the commencement of the current academic year. It will become difficult for the students to balance board exams and MHT-CET 2018 simultaneously with the revised pattern of MHT-CET that has been reintroduced. Moreover, students not only prepare for one entrance exam, they appear for other engineering entrance tests as well. All their planned strategies for preparation have gone for a toss with the latest decision.

A section of students expressed that MHT-CET 2018 would become even more difficult to crack as it will be on the lines of Joint Entrance Examination (JEE) . The last-minute change in exam pattern is very unfair, they added.

Another student felt that the new MHT-CET 2018 exam pattern will increase the pressure among students. Apart from being tough, it will have 200 questions and students will barely get 54 seconds to answer each question.

With the apprehensions increasing with respect to the MHT-CET exam, let's see if the government makes any amendments to the changes introduced. Stay tuned with CollegeDekho!
