The central government has launched a common admission portal for foreign students on 18th April 2018. The main aim of the portal is to promote Indian education to approximately 200,000 international students by the year 2023. The portal Study in India is an initiative of the Human Resource Development Ministry.
As per the new portal, around 160 higher education institutes have been tied up to offer education to international students in various courses seeking to study in India. R. Subrahmanyam, the Secretary, Higher Education, stated that this is one of the major step forward government has taken in higher education. As it will improve the global recognition of the higher education institutes in the country.

This portal will also offer fee waivers to international students and about 55% of the total seats in 160 institutes will be provided to international students. The common admission portal will also ease out the visa requirements and process for international students so that they do not face many difficulties entering the country.

The launch of common admission portal was attended by various ministers such as Satyapal Singh, Minister of State for Human Resource Development, Sushma Swaraj, External Affairs Minister and diplomats from various countries.
