The success story of Surabhi Gautam is inspiring. Today, she has become a source of inspiration to many by qualifying IES and IAS examination with top ranks. Her success proves that women can achieve anything with self-belief and self-confidence.
Surabhi Gautam, born in a traditional joint family, lives in a village called Amdara, located in Satna District of Madhya Pradesh (MP). When she was in school, she struggled hard to study as there was no electricity in her house. Despite all the odds, Surabhi worked hard and proved to be academically talented by scoring 100/100 marks in Mathematics at school. In Class 10 board exams, Surabhi scored 100/100 in Physics and Chemistry. After passing Class 10, Surabhi thought of becoming an IAS officer by cracking UPSC civil services examination. Setting the career goal, Surabhi worked hard to achieve her dream.

Surabhi bagged Abdul Kalam Scholarship for scoring maximum marks in Science stream in Class 12 board exams. Later, she went to Bhopal to complete her bachelor’s degree in Engineering at RGPV (Rajiv Gandhi Proudyogiki Vishwavidyalaya) Bhopal. While pursuing engineering, Surabhi realised that she was not so fluent in English. However, she did not give up and worked hard to improve her vocabulary skills, accent and presentation. Learning English was no easy for her, but she never lost confidence.

After graduating in engineering from RGPV Bhopal, Surabhi appeared for ISRO, GATE, MPPSC, BARC and SAIL examinations. With an objective to realise her dream of becoming a civil service officer, she prepared hard and appeared for Indian Engineering Service (IES) exam. She bagged AIR 1 in IES exam and proved her talent. In UPSC Civil Services, Surabhi scored AIR 50.
Her success journey proves that ‘many hurdles come your way in life, but one can overcome them with the right attitude and determination’.
