The response that is being received for Massive Online and Open Courses (MOOCs) under SWAYAM platform is not up to the mark in Bangalore. Only two institutes are offering MOOCs in the highly advanced city. Indian Institute of Management, Bangalore (IIM-B) and Indian Institute of Science (IISc) are the only institutes in the city that are offering courses on SWAYAM platform.
Bangalore is regarded as a home to 600 colleges, 23 state and private universities. If all the colleges and universities take the initiative to offer MOOCs, a surge in response and attraction may be observed.

Stating the reasons for the lukewarm response for MOOCs in Bangalore, Chairman of AICTE Mr. Anil Sahasrabudhe mentioned that implementing MOOCs in various colleges and universities need proper infrastructure and a lot of effort. IIM Bangalore and IISc are the major institutes that have the required infrastructure and support to facilitate MOOCs.

Currently, a total number of 427 MOOCs are being offered under SWAYAM platform. It has the capacity to offer about 2,000 courses. Through MOOCs, students can learn anytime and anywhere. Students have the option to choose a wide range of online courses being offered at the SWAYAM platform, both at the UG and PG levels. The main objective of SWAYAM platform is to ensure high-quality education.
Currently, IIM Bangalore and IISc are offering nine and ten courses respectively with the use of the initiative. Massive Online & Open Courses is a great initiative launched by the Government of India as part of Digital India initiative. Currently, various universities and institutes across the country are offering various courses ranging from disciplines such as management, business, sciences etc. under the SWAYAM platform.
