Tamil Nadu Agricultural University (TNAU) Introduces Centre of Excellence in Biotechnology

Tamil Nadu Agricultural University (TNAU) has decided to introduce a Centre of Excellence in Biotechnology in order to promote Biotechnology research in the state.

This centre will be a part of the state government program to make centres of excellence in Tamil Nadu in order to make it a knowledge capital, educational hub and a centre of attraction for global investors.

This venture is going to be between the state government, the NABARD, TNAU, private industries & philanthropists. This centre will be built in a massive area of five acres with all the necessary infrastructure & equipment required to make this research center a success.

The centre will consist of the world-class infrastructure conducive for research & development in biotechnology and the main focus of the centre will be to strengthen biotechnology research, skill development & education said the TNAU release.

This centre will act as a collaboration of TNAU and other academic research institutes of Tamil Nadu with international collaborations.

Tamil Nadu Agricultural University has 13 undergraduate programs, 40 graduate degree programs, 26 doctoral programs & 14 farm science centres for research.

According to the National Institutional Ranking Framework (NIRF), Ministry of Human Resource Development (MHRD) has ranked TNAU as Number 1 amongst all state agricultural schools pan India. Amongst all universities, TNAU ranks 40th and among the "Overall" category of academic institutions, and 25th among "All Universities" category and has secured the 105th rank in the QS-BRICS ranking. Establishment of TNAU was conceptualised from an agricultural school at Saidapet (1868) and the institution was later moved to Coimbatore in 1906.
