Earlier, the teachers in Tamil Nadu demanded the government to scrap the New Pension Scheme and revise the pay scale. These two have been the long-standing demands of Tamil Nadu teachers since 2017. However, the government failed to respond to the demands of the teachers. Enraged with the government’s negligence, the teachers had threatened to boycott the ongoing evaluation process.

In April 2018, the teachers who took part in the evaluation process informed the Directorate of Government Exams that they would completely abstain from the work from April 24, 2018, if the government fails to meet the demands of teachers.

Over two million students appeared for Class 10 and Class 12 exams in Tamil Nadu. Directorate of Government Exams has set up 74 evaluation camps across the state.
