The Tamil Nadu government has sanctioned Rs. 600 crores for the establishment of six medical colleges in six districts. Dindigul, Ramanathapuram, Namakkal, Virudhunagar, Tiruppur and Nilgiris are the six districts in which six new medical colleges will be established. Construction of the medical college will begin soon and the classes will start in 2021.
According to the report, Beela Rajesh, the state's health minister, said that the government has sanctioned Rs 100 crores per college after the proposal of medical education director. The construction of the medical college has already begun in some places.

For the construction of the medical college, 40% of the expense will be covered by the state government, while the remaining 60% of the expense will be provided by the centre. The opening of the new six medical colleges would help the poor and deserving students to take admission because the tuition fee for the medical program would be Rs 4000 per year.

Each new medical college will be offering 150 seats each which mean an additional 900 medical seats in the state. The total number of medical seats in the government medical colleges will now rise to 4,500 seats. There are currently 26 medical colleges in the state, according to the Medical Council of India, and adding six more medical colleges will take it to 32.
