Tamil Nadu Schools Holiday 6 December 2023: The severe cyclonic storm, Cyclone Michaung, has now passed the coast of Tamil Nadu and will soon make its landfall near Bapatla in Andhra Pradesh. Thus far, the heaviest affected districts in Tamil Nadu are Thiruvallur, Ranipettai, Kancheepuram, and Chennai. A red alert has been issued in Thiruvallur for today, December 5, and an orange alert is issued in Ranipettai and Kancheepuram. Although Chennai is on yellow alert today, several areas in the district are facing water-logging issues.
As per the latest IMD predictions, several districts in the state have now been moved to a yellow alert including Ranipettai, Kancheepuram, and Puducherry. Although being coastal areas and formerly affected, no alert has so far (as updated on December 5, 2023) been issued for Thiruvallur, Chengalpattu, or Chennai.
Tamil Nadu Schools Holiday 6 December 2023: Holiday declared due to heavy rains
It is likely that in the most affected areas, a holiday for all schools, colleges, educational institutions, government offices, banks, corporations, and likewise will all remain closed. As per the latest notice by the local media, a public holiday has been declared in four districts of Tamil Nadu:
- Kancheepuram
- Thiruvallur
- Chengalpattu
- Chennai
Heavy rain for December 6 is predicted in Ranipettai while moderate to heavy rainfall is predicted in Puducherry. So it is expected that a holiday will be declared in these districts. Furthermore, the earlier rain has created flood situations in Thiruvallur, Chengalpattu, and especially in Chennai where multiple water-logging issues are being reported.
