Punit Debnath, a student from Dharmanagar, belonging to the economically weaker section of the society, is one of the toppers under the TBSE Higher Secondary Education Examinations. He wishes to be a Physicist like Subrahmanyan Chandrashekar.

In the recently announced Higher Secondary results that were released for Tripura Board of Secondary Education (TBSE), one of the top 10 toppers in the TBSE results, is a boy belonging to an economically weaker family from Kanchanpura district in North Tripura.

Punit Debnath, a student of Chandrapur Government Higher Secondary School, hailing from Kanchanpur district in North Tripura, had scored a whopping 462 marks out 500, making him one of the top 10 toppers under TBSE. Punit Debnath lives with his family in a thatched hut. His father, a deed writer at Kanchanpur sub-divisional magistrate’s office, earns a meagre living, enough to support the education, food and living expenses for his son.

Punit Debnath was sent by his family to Dharmanagar, where the opportunities to grow academically was higher. Sending him to the Dharmanagar has resulted positively for him and his family as he has become one of the toppers with distinction in the subjects of Mathematics, English, Chemistry, Physics and Biology. Punit Debnath has been an academically strong student throughout his academic years. For his Madhyamik Class 10 Board examination, he was able to obtain 87.42%.

Debnath has stated that he wishes to pursue his dream of becoming a physicist like Subrahmanyan Chandrashekhar, Stephan Hawking and Albert Einstien. He stated that he has always been passionate about Physics and the concept of Time and Matter. Talking to sources he had expressed his gratitude to his parents and teachers who had worked hard to guide and mentor him to be able to achieve such a feat.

Sources state that the teachers who were offering him private tuitions had not asked Debnath to pay for any of the classes that he had taken. According to sources, just over 27,000 students had appeared for the higher secondary examinations 27,000. Sources also state that the passing percentage this year has been higher than the previous year’s passing percentage.
