- Honourable Prime Minister of India wished Happy Teacher's Day and encouraged the teachers to focus on research and innovation.
- On the occasion, a ceremony was also organised by the HRD Ministry to honour exceptional teachers.
Prime Minister of India, Shri. Narendra Modi greeted the teaching community on Teachers’ Day. He mentioned that teachers must play a crucial role in realising the new India dream. Research and innovation are the two key areas where teachers need to focus on for the development of the nation.
Honourable Prime Minister of India also paid tribute former President of India, Dr. Sarvepalli Radhakrishnan on his birth anniversary on September 5, 2017. He also remembered the valuable services rendered by him to the teaching community.
Mr. Narendra Modi also appreciated the teachers of the nation for their devotion and dedication in rendering their valuable services and successfully imparting knowledge for the welfare of the society. According to Mr. Narendra Modi, the next five years will be focused on learning to lead, educate to empower and teach to transform.

Currently, Narendra Modi is attending BRICS summit in China. He passed the Teachers’ Day message to the nation through Twitter.
On September 5, 2017, the Union Ministry of Human Resource and Development is organising awards ceremony to honour teachers for their exceptional work in 2016. Honourable Vice President of India, Mr. Venkaiah Naidu will felicitate the teachers.
