The annual Techfest of IIT Bombay is set to begin from 16 December 2016  with a plethora of activities. The fest has acquired the dimension of an international event.

The annual Techfest of IIT Bombay is set to begin from 16 December 2016 with a plethora of activities. The fest has acquired the dimension of an international event with the participation of students and faculties from different parts of the world.

The first day will have a series of lectures, different competitions, and exhibitions organised by students of different institutes across the world.

Some of the biggest attractions of the event are -

  • Mind controlled drone by US-based Puzzlebox Orbi
  • Morphofunctional drones from Switzerland
  • Auto Expo
  • Conclave on Laser Interferometer Gravitational-Wave Observatory (LIGO)
  • International summit on the 'Internet of Things'
  • Various robot competitions

A press release from the institute stated that the fest offers the students of IIT-B an opportunity to showcase their research and development activities. It also addresses critical social needs of the country, and at the same tries to satisfy the requirements of the industry, thereby increasing the benefits to the society. It will also showcase an underwater vehicle and formula racing car developed by students of the institute

Several prominent speakers will also join the festival. Leading among them are-

  • Bedabrata Pain - Scientist turned Film Director
  • Jeff Demain - Former Director of Intel Labs
  • Gordon Gill - Burj Khalifa, Dubai Architect
  • Archana Pai - IISER Professor

Last year, more than 1,65,000 people visited the Techfest. It has acquired a huge dimension of late, as one of the biggest science and technology festivals. It is patronised by UNICEF and UNESCO. The three-day festival will be held from 16-18 December 2016 where more than 2500 colleges from different parts of the country and 500 from abroad will actively participate.
