Telangana Govt. Gives Nod for EDCET & DIETCET Notification

Finally, the government of Telangana has given the approval to release TS-EDCET 2017 and TS-DIETCET 2017 notification. The entrance examination is likely to take place in the last week of May. The government is taking steps to complete the counselling process by June and commence the academic year from July 1, 2017.

TS-DIETCET 2017 examination is conducted for the admission to Diploma in Elementary Education (D.Ed) course in various colleges across the state. Similarly, TS-EDCET 2017 examination is conducted for the admission to B.Ed course.

In the year 2016, the government did not release notification for DIETCET examination and 15,000 seats in D.Ed courses remained vacant in various colleges across the state. Therefore, 2016 is regarded as ‘zero admission year’ for D.Ed course.

Similarly, the government failed to take up second phase counselling for the admission to B.Ed course in the year 2016. As a result, 8,000 seats in various B.Ed colleges across the state remained vacant. The government did not release notification to fill up management seats also. However, various college managements filled up around 2,000 B.Ed seats.

In 2016, around 11 B.Ed colleges got approval from National Council for Teacher education (NCTE) and these colleges were denied to take part in the counselling process. These colleges later approached the High Court seeking justice. The court ordered the State Council for Higher Education (SCHE) to take up second phase seat allotment but it did not happen.

Now, B.Ed aspirants are uncertain whether the government releases notification for TS-EDCET 2017 until the case is resolved in Supreme Court. On the other hand, the officials of SCHE assured that they would release the notification soon.
