The Department of Higher Education of Telangana is taking initiatives to set up a Mining University in Kothagudem located in Khammam district. Already, the officials of the department are working consistently to start the operations of the University from the next academic session.
There is a Mining College in Kothagudem which is affiliated to Kakatiya University. Mr. Papireddy, Chairman of Higher Education, said that the Mining College would be transformed into University and framework is being prepared to commence the operations of the University from 2017.

The officials of Higher Education Department took part in a meeting which was held last week and discussed the guidelines for the establishment of University. In this session, an experts committee has been constituted to visit the Mining College in Kothagudem and suggest probable measures for transforming it into University. The committee will visit the college on September 26, 2016.
If this University comes into existence, it will benefit the students of Telangana who are aspiring to pursue mining engineering. The students will also have to chance to get placed in Singarani Collieries where the Coal is being extracted. Singareni Coal Mines are located in Khammam.
