Professor S Parasuraman, director TISS informed the staff that he would no longer serve as the director of the Tata Institute of Social Sciences TISS .
Parasuraman was appointed as the director of TISS in 2004 and had completed his second term in the year 2014. As per the sources, he wanted to leave TISS after the completion of his second term but the board asked him to stay till the next director for the institution has been appointed. In the email sent to the staff, he mentioned that he wishes to go away with good feelings since this journey for him has been beautiful.

In the circular, he also spoke about his arduous journey in TISS, towards making it a Grade 1 institution of the country. Parahuman joined the institution as a lecturer in 1981 and then assumed to the post of professor in the year 1993. He also started a new course Kevat for cancer support and management at Tata Memorial Hospital. The main aim of this tie-up was to spread the awareness about the care of cancer patients and management. He also commissioned a tobacco survey with Union Health Ministry to study the habit of tobacco and reasons amongst teens.

Parasuraman latest project at TISS was related to the aid of mental illness. The projects aim at providing mental ill patients who have been cured and treated are being given accommodation outside mental hospitals. So that they could live independently and support their own lives.
