The University Grants Commission has approved a proposal to set up Swami Dayananda Saraswati & Guru Gobind Singh chairs in all the central universities. Jaspal S Sandhu, Secretary of UGC gave the statement through a written letter to all the Vice Chancellors of Central Universities. He mentioned that the UGC has formulated Scheme of Chairs in the name of eminent persons for a deeper reflection on critical issues.

Through the written statement, Secretary of UGC invited proposals from the universities to set up these chairs. He also mentioned that the Commission approved a Chair in the name of Guru Gobind Singh in the fields or subjects – “Comparative Study of all the Religions and Cultures” and “Social Reformer”.
The letter stated that the Commission approved a chair in the name of Swami Dayananda Saraswati in the subject areas “Social Awakening” or “Social Reforming”.

Recently, Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) had urged UGC to conduct National Eligibility Test (NET) 2017. The CBSE mentioned that conducting various entrance and recruitment tests is creating a burden and assured that it would give technical support for NET 2017 examination.
