Fergusson College Pune has become the first college in Pune to be awarded the coveted ‘College with Excellence’ award by the nodal higher education body ie. University Grants Commission (UGC) on Friday, 3rd March 2017.
With the status coming its way, the college will now be able to enjoy certain benefits and advantage like -
- Excellence status for a period of 5 years from 1 st April 2017 to 31 st March 2022
- Funding of INR 2 crore for infrastructure development
In 2016, the UGC awarded deemed status to the college and it also received NAAC A grade. In the year 2011, it also got the status of 'College with Potential for Excellence' by the Commission.

Ravindrasinh Pardeshi, Principal of the college said that they will receive a total of INR 2 crore, out of which INR 1.4 crore are being offered as non-recurring capital assets and INR 60 lakh are allotted for recurring expenses. The college will now be able to bring a lot of positive changes with the help of the funds.
Initially, what they had proposed was to bring courses and schemes that attract the attention of students in different subjects such as art and languages, science etc. Moreover, the funds will also be used to enhance the present infrastructure of the laboratory, arrange for important software as well as equipment for language laboratory, buy computers and books, update automation of library, enhance skills of teaching faculty, etc.

He further said that the college has proposed two major projects namely Model for Art-Science Teachers (MAST) and Learn to Innovate for Excellence (LIFE). The former intends to offer in-house training, teaching aids and development of e-content. The latter seeks to enhance research and entrepreneurship skills among students.
