As per the of Ministry of Human Resource and Development, University Grants Commission has issued orders for the audit of 10 central universities. By conducting an audit, UGC will take a note of the irregularities of varsities in academic, administrative and financial matters and will further direct the varsities to resolve the issues.

For this purpose, the University Grants Commission had constituted five committees on April 25, 2017. The committees will carry out infrastructure, financial, research and academic audit. The higher education regulator, i.e., UGC will audit the following central universities: -
- Hari Singh Gour University, Madhya Pradesh (MP)
- University of Tripura
- Mahatma Gandhi Antarrashtriya Hindi Vishwavidyalaya, Wardha
- Central University of Jammu
- Central University of Rajasthan
- Central University of Jharkhand
- Hemwati Nandan Bahuguna Garhwal University, Uttaranchal
- Allahabad University
- Pondicherry University
- Aligarh Muslim University
All the five committees will audit two universities each and submit a report within a month.
The head of the committee who will audit Aligarh Muslim University and Pondicherry University is Professor Shripad Karmalkar of Indian Institute of Technology, Madras . One of the professors of Indian Institute of Management, Bangalore is also the member of the committee.

Eminent professors from the University of Delhi and Indian Institute of Management, Indore will audit Central University of Jharkhand and Central University of Rajasthan.
A panel that consists of eminent professors from Indian Institute of Science, Bangalore , Delhi University, Jawaharlal Nehru University and Indian Institute of Management, Bangalore will audit Hemwati Nandan Bahuguna Garhwal University, Uttaranchal and Allahabad University.
