- Among the 24 fake universities in India, eight universities are in the national capital Delhi.
- As per UGC, fake universities are not entitled to award degrees.
The UGC (University Grants Commission) has released a new list of 24 self-styled and fake universities in India . Surprisingly, eight out of 24 fake universities are located in Delhi. As per UGC, these universities do not have UGC recognition, and they are functioning in contravention of UGC Act . Therefore, these universities are declared fake and are not authorised to award degrees.

According to UGC Act 1956 , only those universities established under a Central/ State/ Provincial Act are authorised to award degrees. Similarly, deemed universities recognised by UGC are also eligible to offer courses and award degrees.
