The Human Resource Development (HRD) Ministry has acted upon the media reports which revealed the story of a racket selling fake degrees of recognised universities to students in exchange for huge money.
To probe into the allegations of selling of fake degrees by certain universities, the Ministry of Human Resource Development (MHRD) has directed the University Grants Commission (UGC) to form a high-level inquiry committee
The directive to set up a panel has been issued after the media reports started coming in that a racket prevailing in several parts of the country. In this agents would claim to arrange fake degrees of recognized varsities without the need for the students to attend classes or appear in the examination.
The Ministry of Human Resource Development (HRD) has posted a tweet regarding the same stating that HRD has ordered UGC to form a high-level inquiry to look into the matter of sale of fake degrees by some recognised Universities as revealed by the media.
Followingly, the ministry added that the identification of institutions and the process of inquiry by the high-level committee must be completed within 3 weeks of notification. The Ministry has made it clear that the people or the individual behind this unethical racket won’t be spared and they will face legal consequences as per the law and order of the country.

Previously, Lucknow University had been accused of a fake degree case where university officials were themselves involved to grant fake degrees to the students through agents in exchange for a lump-sum amount of money. Again surfacing of these cases have become a matter of concern to the officials of UGC.
