The University Grants Commission (UGC) has decided to introduce a new cloud-based integrated system known as the University Management System (UMS) that will connect all the central universities of the country in order to ease the various admission processes and other student related queries and matters.

The system will help the top level authorities to monitor the academic procedures and examination activities of the universities which will further increase transparency. The efficiency of daily functioning of the universities will also be eased up with the system handling finance and administration related matters as well.

In regard to the same, UGC has set up a three-member panel comprising of VCs of central universities of South Bihar, Kashmir and Haryana, who will aid in the implementation of the proposed decision and explore ways to make all CUs wi-fi equipped and enabled. A bi-monthly report will be submitted by the committee stating the progress and timelines of the plan.

At present, University of Goa, Bundelkhand University, National Dairy Research Institute - Karnal , and Rajasthan University of Veterinary and Animal Sciences etc. use a similar e-governance tool/platform that had been developed by private vendors. The positive feedback of the system has thus encouraged a similar proposal at a larger level.
