UGC has sent letters to various universities across the country asking them to celebrate the International Day of Yoga with mass demonstrations. The regulatory body has asked the universities to start elaborate training programmes to teach common Yoga protocols for a mass Yoga presentation.
On the occasion of 5th Yoga Day, PM Modi addressed that Yoga assures fitness and wellness. It ensures a healthy body, stable mind and spirit of oneness in society.
Authorities of all educational institutes have been asked to participate and regulate these programmes. Eminent yoga experts will also be providing lectures and courses at the universities regarding the same to mark the International Yoga Day on 21st June 2019. UGC has asked the universities to follow the Common Yoga Protocol - CYP 2019 received by the Ministry of AYUSH. The CYP is a 45 minute long of Yoga Asanas.

The letter stated that the preparation for the International Day of Yoga 2019 is underway. It further added that the Government of India is planning to take the celebrations forward with more fervour in 2019 and is focusing on getting maximum participation from the youth.
The letter was addressed to the vice-chancellors of various universities and mentioned that other events can also be conducted apart from the mass demonstration. These events can include seminars, yoga fests, workshops, cultural and musical programmes based on yoga.
Universities have also been directed to take help from prominent Yoga institutions for proper orientation, training and expert advice regarding celebrations.

The International Day of Yoga is observed every year on the 21 st of June every year. The day was recognised by the United Nations General Assembly in its 69 th session.
