Colleges and universities in West Bengal are set to get virtual classrooms under state government’s new initiative that aims to give a digital boost to higher education. Additional Chief Secretary of West Bengal, Dr. RS Shuklathat revealed that the government is aiming to bring higher learning institutes on a digital platform. The new digital initiative will be on the sidelines of 25 th West Bengal Science Congress , he explained.
Adding further, Dr. RS Shuklathat who is also the In-Charge of Higher Education Department pointed that the virtual classrooms will help the students of different colleges and universities to connect with each other. On the other hand, through this initiative, the lecture at a particular university or college will be available to students of other institutes as well, he added.

Giving details about West Bengal Science Congress, Dr. RS Shuklathat said that the state-level science meet is organised every year with an aim to nurture the young minds in their pursuit of scientific knowledge. This year, the science congress received over 1,250 research papers from students. After a detailed scrutiny of the research papers by an expert panel, 154 have been selected for presentation. It is a great opportunity for the students to present their ideas and research work before a panel of eminent scientists, he highlighted.

Dr. RS Shuklathat also mentioned that three outstanding research papers will be awarded prizes on March 06, 2018.
The two-day West Bengal Science Congress began on March 05, 2018. Popular American physicist, Mr. Mani Lal Bahumik graced the first day of the event. He hailed the initiatives of the West Bengal government for encouraging students to pursue science after school.
