One of the most popular central universities of the country, AMU or the Aligarh Muslim University has entered into a collaboration through a Memorandum of Understanding or MoU that was signed with the University of Sharjah of UAE (United Arab Emirates).
The Vice Chancellor of AMU, Lt. General Zameer Uddin Shah and Chancellor of Sharjah University, Professor Hamid Al Naimy were present to formally sign the MoU.

Features of the MoU:
- Both the universities will conduct an exchange of knowledge, research proposals, academic projects and other such activities.
- Academic cooperation between the two universities will take place with an exchange of faculty members, students and qualified research scholars.
- Joint research meetings, activities, educational programmes at the undergraduate, postgraduate, doctorate as well as post-doctorate level with respect to education will be one of the prime objectives of this cooperation.
- Educational resource materials consisting of publications, business and technology incubators, scientific information, entrepreneurial ideas and fellowships will also be exchanged.
- Facilitation of networking and support activities for research centres, affiliated institutions and associated hospitals for medical advancement will also be given due importance.
A designated coordinator will be selected from both the universities who will be responsible for ensuring the implementation of the objectives of this collaboration. Apart from that, financial agreements of the project will also be discussed in the follow-up meetings that will take place next.

AMU also recently became a leader in the field of nanotechnology research activities, recycling of solar energy and waste water for the automotive purposes.

- Michigan State University CoE (College of Engineering), USA
- University of Massachusetts Medical School, USA
