The University of Hyderabad (UoH) has received a record number of applications for 2020-21 even amid the ongoing coronavirus outbreak. The number of applications received this year is 62,853 as compared to 56,000 last year. The applications have been received for 2,456 seats in over 130 programmes which include 16 integrated courses, 15 M.Phil , 41 PG courses and 10 M.Tech courses.
Along with an increase in the number of applications, the number of foreign students applying for the courses has also increased over 20 per cent this year according to UoH VC, Appa Rao Podile. The institute has the institution of eminence tag which has impacted UoH in a positive way. Out of the total number of applications received, roughly 60 per cent are from the students belonging to SC. ST and OBC categories. 11 applications have been received from transgender students.

About 46 per cent of the applications are from Telangana, followed by 12 per cent from Kerala, 8 per cent from Delhi, 6 per cent from West Bengal and AP and 5 per cent from Odisha.
As far as the number of course-wise applications is concerned, M.Sc (five-yr Integrated) Sciences (MA/PY/CH/SB/AG) has received the highest number with 6,189 applications. It is followed by M.Sc Chemistry with 3,847, M.Sc Physics with 3,161, I.M.A. (five-yr Integrated) Social Sciences (EC/HS/PS/SL/AN) with 2,953, MA English with 2,536 and MCA with 2,946. The entrance exam schedule will be notified as soon as the COVID-19 situation gets better and exams can be conducted, the VC said.
