The Uttar Pradesh cabinet has given a go-ahead to state medical colleges to appoint retired professors to fill in faculty positions that are vacant. There are some colleges in the state which are currently under construction and will be needing medical professors to take lecturers. These colleges include Paediatrics Hospital at BRD Medical College and Super Speciality Cancer Hospital in Lucknow.
It is important to note that the retired professors will be hired on a contractual basis at a monthly fixed pay of not more than Rs.. 2.30 lakh. The UP cabinet gave the approval on the grounds that as per MCI, the retirement age of medical teachers is 70 years and not 65 years.
The super speciality blocks will also be established in four other medical colleges in cities like Gorakhpur, Jhansi, Meerut and Allahabad as a part of the Prime Minister Swastha Suraksha Yojana.

A 500-bed paediatrics hospital which is being established at the BRD Medical College is primarily to cater to encephalitis-affected regions of Terai and Purvanchal.

The Health Ministry is making continuous efforts to improve the standard of medical education in the country. National level entrance exams such as NEET, AIIMS MBBS, JIPMER MBBS screen candidates on the basis of which they are granted admissions to the medical colleges across the country.
