UP restates demand for more NIFTs

Akhilesh Yadav, Chief Minister of Uttar Pradesh has written to the Union minister of state for textiles, Santosh Gangwar asking him to re-consider the proposal to open National Institute of Fashion Technology centres in Lucknow, Noida and Bareilly.

In his letter, Akhilesh said the state government has implemented the Textile industry Policy-2014, along with the state's industrial development policy that has created bright prospects for investment in the sector. He also apprised the Centre about the need for professional trainers in the state.

Despite the Centre's policy that only one NIFT can be opened in every state, Akhilesh said Rae Bareli AIIMS is not enough to meet the "needs and aspirations of students" and therefore more NIFT centres be opened in UP.
