UPPSC PCS Prelims Exam 2024: The Uttar Pradesh Public Service Commission (UPPSC), on November 15, announced that the Provincial Civil Services (PCS) preliminary exam will be conducted on December 22, 2024, in two different sessions. Earlier, the commission decided to organise the prelims exam on December 7 and 8, in different shifts, which brought state-wide protests demanding to conduct the exam on a single day as conducted before and remove the normalisation process as it leads to ambiguity regarding the marks normalisation process. Students protesting in Lucknow stated that the Marks Normalisation Process doesn’t justify the transparency and fairness in the system.

Due to the heavy backlash, the UPPSC has revised the PCS Prelims exam schedule and decided to conduct the PCS Prelims Exam 2024 on December 22, 2024, in a single day in two shifts. Now it will be conducted on December 22 in two sessions -- the first session from 9.30 AM to 11.30 AM and the second session from 2.30 PM to 4.30 PM. The PCS prelims examination includes two objective-type paper: General Studies Paper-I and CSAT (Civil Services Aptitude Test) Paper-II, conducted on the same day with a total duration of four hours.

Will Marks Normalisation be applicable to UPPSC PCS Prelims Exam 2024?

The normalization system is implemented when exams are held in multiple shifts across different days, which may feature question papers of varying difficulty levels. To ensure fairness, the performance of candidates is standardized. This system employs a statistical formula to adjust scores, ensuring that no candidate is either disadvantaged or favoured based on the difficulty of their exam.

As the UP PCS Prelims Exam 2024 will be conducted in a single day now, the marks normalisation process will not be applicable to the UPPSC PCS Prelims Exam as all aspirants will be appearing together for the exam leading to more transparency in the system . To maintain exam sanctity, UPPSC has promised strict security and monitoring at centres. Exams will only be held at locations deemed secure and free from any risk of malpractice.
