Results of the Civil Services Examination 2016 are out now. Candidates who appeared for the exam can check their performance on the official website of the Union Public Service Commission (UPSC). A PDF file comprising the detailed list of the qualifying candidates is available on the UPSC website.

The first position in the exam was secured by Karnataka’s Nandini KR. She pursued her B.Tech in civil engineering from MS Ramaiah Institute of Technology, Bangalore . Nandinin belongs to the OBC pool of candidates and cleared the civil services exam with Kannada Literature as her optional subject. The exam was topped by a girl candidate (Tina Dabi) in 2015 as well.

A total of 1,099 candidates have been shortlisted for grade-1 government services. Another 220 candidates’ names have been mentioned in the waiting list. Like previous years, the civil services exam was conducted in three stages i.e. preliminary, main and interview.

Following table shows the division of posts for which candidates will be shortlisted by UPSE:

Out of the 1099 candidates who qualified the exam, 846 were males and 253 were females. The number of qualifying candidates also comprised 44 physically handicapped candidates. The list of top 25 students of the Civil Services exam 2016 comprises 18 men and 7 women.

Out of the total candidates shortlisted, 500 are from the general category, 347 belong to the Other Backward Class (OBC) category. Another 163 are Scheduled Castes (SC) whereas 89 are from Scheduled Tribe (ST) categories.

Overall, 11,35,943 candidates had applied for Civil Services preliminary exam, however, only 4,59,659 appeared. 15,452 candidates were shortlisted to write the (main) examination and out of these only 2,961 candidates cleared the exam in order to appear for the personality test.
