Eight months ago, Baswan Committee suggested changes in civil services exam pattern and age limit. An official report was submitted to the Union Public Service Commission on August 9, 2016. However, the matter is pending, and the government will consider the recommendations soon. An official associated with Department of Training and Personnel revealed that the report submitted by Baswan Committee and UPSC’s recommendations is under examination. The decision regarding the same will be taken soon, he clarified.

In August 2015, the UPSC had constituted an expert committee headed by former HRD Secretary and retired IAS officer, Mr. Baswan. The committee was constituted to review the pattern and scheme of UPSC Civil Services Exam. After the detailed study, the committee recommended the reduction in upper age limit i.e. 32 years.

In November 2016, Minister of State for Personnel, Mr. Jitendra Singh informed Rajya Sabha that the recommendations made by Baswan Committee regarding the reduction of upper age limit and pattern of the civil services exam were under consideration of UPSC.

After a thorough examination of recommendations made by Baswan Committee, UPSC submitted its report to Government of India on March 20, 2017. It has been eight months, and the government has not finalised anything.
