Hard work and dedication are the key factors that helped Utkarsh Makan, a student from Jharkhand to score 330 out of 360 marks in JEE Main 2017 examination. He secured the 40 th rank at All India level and emerged as the topper of the Jharkhand state.
Makan’s father was a trader in Dhanbad who played a crucial role in motivating his son. Speaking about his success, Makan mentioned that he was in the temple when he got the news and felt that it was the blessing of almighty as well as his parents. Makan completed his Class 12 from Doon Public School, Dhanbad.

Makan used to study for 12 hours every day, avoided using social media, and fully focused on studies. His aim is to pursue Computer Science in engineering at Indian Institute of Technology, Mumbai .
Another topper from the Jharkhand state is Mohit who bagged the 53 rd rank at All India Level and emerged as the second topper of Jharkhand. He scored 325 out of 360 marks and stood at sixth position in OBC category. Highlighting his happiness on his success, Mohit said that it was his dedication and hard work that helped him succeed. Mohit completed his Class 12 from DAV Public School, Bistupur.

He took coaching for JEE examination at Jamshedpur. He used to study for eight hours besides going to coaching classes and school. His mother works as a primary school teacher. With an objective to keep him away from distraction, he avoided smartphones and internet. Interestingly, Mohit is still using a basic phone.
Advising the students, Mohit said that one should not get addicted to social media, which distracts their mind, while they are preparing for entrance exams.
