While speaking at the 13th convocation of Kumaun University as the Chief Guest, Uttarakhand Governor K K Paul asked the universities to face the challenge of the changing world and produce cadres of skilled youth who can take up research and face the challenge of competition to be able to work anywhere in the world.

The Governor said that the universities face the challenge of producing cadres of skilled youth so that they can take up leadership roles and re-orient themselves in accordance with the changing times and also develop an academic base that boosts the confidence of students. Today's youth need to orient them accordingly in order to achieve their goals. Such move would make them confident enough and they will have the skills required for start-ups and entrepreneurship.
He also underlined the need for the universities to work on special courses on various skills development course for the youth. Educational institutions must come with curriculum designs that are not only practical and relevant but also job-oriented and futuristic.

The Governor also highly praised the University for its reach into the interior areas of the Kumaun region and also for entering into collaboration and cooperation through joint research and technological development programs with reputed international institutions.
He also said that the University has adhered to its academic calendar which in itself an achievement. He also congratulated the University for achieving ‘A’ certificate from the National Assessment and Accreditation Council (NAAC) and expressed hope that the university would move toward greater achievements. He further proposed that the University should focus more on the Patents, Nanotechnology Centre, and Nanoscience must accelerate its research activities.

The Governor also urged the universities to work on other emerging areas like-
- Environmental Studies
- Bio-Informatics
- Information and Communication Technology
- Entrepreneurship Development
He also advised the students to spend as much time as possible in the laboratory of the university on research.
