Vice President of India Inaugurates Delhi School of Journalism

Vice President of India, Mr. Venkaiah Naidu formally inaugurated the Delhi School of Journalism (DSJ) last week at a function that took place on the premises of the University of Delhi. Addressing the officials, dignitaries, faculty members and first batch students, Mr. Venkaiah Nadu hailed the Institute for launching Journalism course in English and Hindi. Delhi School of Journalism is the first institute in the world to launch a five-year integrated course in Journalism, he highlighted.

Speaking of the course, Mr. Venkaiah Naidu pointed that DSJ’s initiative to offer Journalism course in two languages will broaden the scope of students and their reach. The course will play a vital role in the national integration, he hoped.

Honourable Vice President of India expressed that DSJ would produce skilled journalists who will help in consolidating the democracy. He termed Journalism as the fourth pillar of democracy and it serves as a watchdog. Budding journalists must focus on basic values and work towards upholding national integrity. Journalists must avoid sensationalism and work ethically to bring out the facts/ truth, he urged.

During the inaugural session of DSJ, Mr. Venkaiah Naidu, along with other dignitaries, launched the primary copy of the bilingual and biannual newsletter of DSJ, ‘Srijan’.

Chairperson of DSJ Advisory Council, Mr. Ram Bahadur Rai revealed that the vacuum had been filled with the establishment of DSJ campus at the University of Delhi. The curriculum of DSJ will be at par with international standards and it would uphold the culture & tradition of India, he added.

Vice Chancellor of DU, Professor Yogesh Tyagi stated that DSJ gives students, an opportunity to learn both regional and international language.

During the inaugural session of DSJ, the dignitaries paid tribute to late Dr. Savita M Dutta, who was the Chairman of DSJ Syllabus Committee. She played a prominent role in framing and developing the syllabus for the Journalism course.
