Addressing the students at the special convocation ceremony of SRM University, Vice President of India, Mr. Venkaiah Naidu stressed the importance of attitude and character. Quoting the lines said by Mahatma Gandhi, honourable Vice President of India said that education without character is of no use and is worthless. Students have to possess five ‘C’s including compassion, conduct, capacity, calibre and character. All these qualities are highly significant for students. However, in the present society, the prevalence of three ‘C’s is higher including cash, caste and community, said Mr. Venkaiah Naidu.

Adding further, Mr. Venkaiah Naidu indicated that the higher education system in the country is passing through a phase of rapid expansion. The number of students opting for higher students has been increasing along with the number of institutes rising substantially. It is time for the higher education institutes to extend the frontiers of knowledge, he added.
Recollecting the lines said by a famous Tamil poet, the Vice President quoted that ‘an uneducated person is like a barren land and life becomes empty and useless without education’. Education is highly significant for empowerment and enlightenment. The true spirit of education could be realised only if it is accessible to vulnerable sections of the society, felt Naidu.
During the special convocation ceremony, 6000 postgraduate, undergraduate, diploma and doctoral degrees in different disciplines were awarded to students.
