The 67 th convocation ceremony of Panjab University took place on Sunday, March 04, 2018. Vice-President of India, Mr. Venkaiah Naidu was the chief guest of the occasion. Apart from conferring degrees to the graduating students, the varsity also conferred some prominent awards to renowned personalities.
While addressing the gathering, Mr. Venkaiah Naidu asked the universities in India to reform, perform and transform into a target to become centres of excellence. It is highly mandatory for the universities to evolve and change as per the needs of the changing times. Apart from achieving greater heights in the career, students must also give equal emphasis to the mother tongue. Ethics and values have no substitutes, and students must play a dominant role in inculcating the same during the progress of their career, he advised.

Mr. Venkaiah Naidu further urged the youth to utilise the technology and communication systems for the welfare of the society. There is a need to hold healthy discussions on many of the existing and major problems of the society. In all, youth will have to work towards social harmony, he added.
Appreciating Panjab University for its initiative to honour eminent personalities in different fields, Mr. Venkaiah Naidu pointed that many illustrious leaders, as well as, makers of Indian nation have been associated with the esteemed university.

Highlighting the significance of each discipline in the field of education , Mr. Venkaiah Naidu indicated that the division between the areas of humanities and science is artificial and has been made for convenience sake, he concluded.
Mr. Venkaiah Naidu conferred Honorius Causa degrees on three eminent persons including: -
- Former Chief Justice of India, Mr. Jagadish Singh Khehar
- Professor Sir Tejinder Singh Virdee (D.Sc)
- Professor MM Sharma (D.Sc)
He also conferred the following awards to other personalities such as: -
- Udyog Rattan Award to the eminent industrialist, Mr. Sunil Kant Munjal
- Gian Rattan Award to popular art historian, Professor BN Goswamy
- Khel Ratna Award to India’s legendary athlete, Milkha Singh
