When it comes to research papers submission, VIT University , one of the leading Universities of the country has raced ahead of the other research focussed universities or institutes of the country. The University is known to have submitted 2600 research papers in 2016.

As per the recent survey of Scopus database, it comes to light that until 5 th January 2017, the University has published 2598 research papers. At the same time, Indian Insititute of Science or IISc Bangalore published 2563 research papers.
Among various schools of the University, the top slots are occupied by the following schools -
- School of Advanced Sciences (first spot)
- School of Biosciences & Technology (second spot)
Dean of academic research, Prof. G Buvaneswari said that the h-index that measures the productivity, as well as citation impact of the publications, was around 59 last year which is much higher as compared to previous years. He reiterated that next time onwards the university will compete with itself and further stress on improving the quality of the research papers. Additionally, the university will also apply for patents and products.

A press release from the university stated that the University has seen a steady rise in the publication of research papers in the recent years. Also sharing his reaction, the Vice-Chancellor of the University, G Viswanathan said that in 2010 the university published only 442 research papers. The position was much lower at the All India level back then. But as soon as the University started giving professors and students some incentives to take up research activities so that it could come at par with top institutes of the country, the output increased phenomenally. Now, after few years, the University has even surpassed its expectation and is heading towards bagging the top position without any rivalry.
