WFME Accredits India with Recognition StatusWFME Accreditation India: In a milestone achievement for the country, the National Medical Commission (NMC) of India has been awarded the World Federation of Medical Education (WFME) Recognition Status for a tenure period of 10 years. After this recognition, Indian medical graduates will now be eligible to practice medicine in the USA, Australia, Canada, and New Zealand. The recognition also makes Indian medical students eligible to apply for Education Commission on Foreign Medical Education (ECFMG) and United States Medical Licensing Examination (USMLE) status.
This accreditation by WFME is a testament to NMC’s unwavering commitment to achieving the highest standards in medical education in the country. Under this, all 706 existing medical colleges under NMC will be considered WFME accredited for the remarkable tenure of 10 years until it is next renewed. With this WFME recognition status, Indian medical graduates will now be able to pursue postgraduate degrees or practice in the countries that require WFME recognition including the United States of America, Australia, Canada, and New Zealand. This recognition also opens gates for international medical professionals to pursue their studies in India who earlier used to be reluctant to come due to the lack of WFME accreditation. Also, it is expected that the country’s reputation in the international medical domain will go to greater heights from here.
A Member of the Ethics and Medical Registration Board and Head Media Division at NMC, Dr. Yogender Malik, also spoke on this landmark achievement. He said, "WFME's recognition underscores that the quality of medical education in India adheres to global standards. This accolade empowers our students with the opportunity to pursue their careers anywhere in the world, while also making India an attractive destination for international students due to our globally recognized standards."
