Why JEE Main January 2023 postponement is likely?

The reasons for it are enlisted here:

  • NTA had postponed JEE Main 2022 to allow candidates more time for preparation. Moreover, last year, the first attempt itself was in the last week of April and was later postponed to the last week of June. It was far more delayed than this year.

  • In January, most of the board’s practical examinations will be conducted. For example, CBSE board practicals will begin on January 01 and will go on throughout the month. In a more problematic case, the Assam board has scheduled their practical examination from January 25 to February 15.

  • Another problem is faced by Bihar students. JEE Main 2023 January session ends on January 31 while Bihar Board 12th exams begin on February 01, 2023, leaving no gap for preparation. Similarly, CBSE exams begin on February 15 and ISC exam begins on February 13.

  • Most of the pre-board examinations will be held in January.

  • There was a delay in the release of JEE Main exam date 2023 by the NTA, thus candidates now only have 40 days in hand to prepare for the toughest engineering undergraduate entrance examination. This period is usually 3 to 4 months.

  • Due to the pandemic, classes started late this year and thus, all teaching institutes are running late on the completion of the syllabus.

  • For droppers, their counselling ended on November 06, 2022, which means such candidates only have 78 days to prepare for JEE Main 2023, which is far less time. Droppers usually get 6 to 7 months for preparation.

Why JEE Main January 2023 postponement is unlikely?

The respective reasons for it are similarly listed here:

  • Despite having all valid reasons and flood conditions in many states last year, NTA did not postpone NEET UG 2022. The case was taken to Delhi High Court wherein it was ruled in the favour of NTA and non-postponement.

  • For many exams that NTA faced court last year, it gave the single most argument that the disrupted academic schedules must be restored back to regular timings and, as stated in the example above, it was agreed upon as well.

  • Post-exam counsellings take a lot of time and if the exam is postponed, it will affect next year’s schedule to some extent as well.

  • Given the planning it takes, rescheduling is a difficult task.

One possible solution is that NTA can reschedule the January attempt to April and April attempt to May so that by next year, all academic schedules are restored without affecting an entire batch in the process. However, it is advised to study as though the attempt will be held in January.
