As AICTE (All India Council for Technical Education) made internships mandatory for engineering students, there has been uncertainty over the same for B.Tech students due to Coronavirus outbreak. All the engineering colleges in India have been shut down until April 14, 2020, the final semester exams, which were scheduled to be conducted in March, have been postponed. Once the colleges re-open, the exams will commence, and this may delay the subsequent process such as internships, declaration of results etc.
As AICTE is firm with internship rule for engineering students, it has asked students not to enrol in internships that will make them work outside of their homes. Instead, engineering colleges should make students take up internships from companies, which are allowing work from home. This will help students to complete their internship on time. In addition, this will not involve travelling so that students will not be exposed to Covid-19.

If the colleges are unable to find work from home internships, challenging problems can be given as internships by colleges so that students can work from home. Further details about the AICTE internship policy for engineering students will be given only after the lockdown ends.
In order to get the B.Tech certificate, a student must mandatorily complete the internship, as specified by AICTE. This rule will be partially relaxed for this academic session.
On the other hand, the admission process for the upcoming academic session is expected to be delayed due to the ongoing circumstances.
