Xavier University has now been renamed XIM University. The Odisha (Amendment) Bill was passed in March 2021 in the State Assembly, which received the Governor's consent leading to the university being renamed.
XIM Society (Xavier Institute of Management Society) had set up Xavier Institute of Management (XIM) Bhubaneswar in 1987 and XIMB was renowned across India and globally. Then, after 26 years of being XIMB, the brand name XIM was changed to 'Xavier' in order to set up Xavier University. But the staff, students, and faculty were of the opinion that the university was losing its legacy and brand equity which they got over 26 years. Hence, a name change was suggested.

The university authorities have expressed their gratitude to the CM, Governor, MLAs, the people of Odisha, and all stakeholders. The renaming also enables the integration of both the campuses of the university into a shared structure, procedure, and process for better management and governance. Students will also get better career prospects at a global level with the XIM brand certificate.
XIM has managed to successfully produce more than 8,000 management graduates. It has 11 schools that offer various UG, PG, and doctoral level programs in HR Management, Business Management, Sustainability Management, Rural Management, Mass Communication, Human Settlements, Commerce, Economics, Computer Science & Engineering, Governance, Law, and Public Affairs.
