What are the UGC provisions with regard to transfer of a PH Candidate and Differently Abled students- doing his/her PhD research to another university.

Dear student,

Switching Ph.D programs is possible, though it usually means applying to the new university as if you were starting from scratch. There's no single, standard process across all universities, so each one sets its own rules.

In short,

  • There is No Centralized Policy: The UGC doesn't have a uniform, mandatory policy for PhD transfers. It largely leaves the decision and process to the individual universities.
  • University Has Autonomy: Universities have the freedom to formulate their own rules and procedures for admitting students who have already done Ph.D work elsewhere. This means requirements, acceptance of coursework, and credit transfers can vary significantly.
